After the Phoenix rises, ashes glimmering with hot brassy-gold remain… evidence the transformation has occurred and you have transcended what used to weigh you down and hold you back
This conceptual piece originated with an intention of embracing the rich, delicious chocolate tones of coffee, complimenting them with warm earthy tones and brassy-gold highlights. As the jojoba oil soaked coffee and alcohol inks slowly creps across the canvas, I intuitively understood what they symbolised. After observing their natural flow into certain places on the canvas, I manipulated them gently to form the golden ashes that remain after the Phoenix rises.
I love the warm and calming colours and intricate patterns formed around the edges of the ashen remains, and I have a strong connection with this piece, having recently made the decision to rise above the drudgery of working for the government and transform into a full time artist working for myself, doing what I love.
These are my ashen remains that are evidence of my transformation and transcendence. I hope they’re yours too.
