About the Art
Original Artworks
Creation
My artworks are original pieces, created by my own two hands. No AI, no shortcuts, just blood, sweat and magic dancing. The majority of my pieces comprise intricate detail as a result of many layers of creation. Unfortunately, this detail is difficult to portray online.
No piece will ever be replicated - it can’t be. The possibilities of movement for of each one of every fluid materials I use are infinite, and as the fluid acrylic paint, and acrylic and alcohol inks are added randomly following an intuitive process, without taking note of which was added when, each creation is necessarily a unique, one-off piece of art.
The only unifying factor for my artwork is that they are created using this same intuitive process, and the end result is always a surprise.
Provenance
Each piece of art is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by me, the Artist, as a record of the artwork’s provenance. It includes the title of the piece, my name, the location and the year it was created, the medium and materials used for the piece, dimensions, and confirmation it is the only copy of the artwork.
Artistic Style
My artistic style for many years was one of control and precision so I could attain perfection. The extreme level of detail in my real life sketches and paintings mirrored the early stages of my spiritual journey and the particular teachings I was following. As my spiritual journey progressed into teachings about presence and awareness, my artistic style has become much more about letting go of control, and embracing the energy and movement of the materials I use. Less form, more flow… less control, more trusting the process.
I now create my artworks being fully present with the intuitive, creative process, and I’m much more aware of when I can rest and simply allow the flow of the art materials to lead the direction of the artwork. There’s something liberating about allowing the materials to have the last say.
The Five Elements
Some of my artwork focuses on the five elements and their symbolic colours or ‘lights’, as taught in Eastern traditions such as Tibetan (such as Buddhism and Bon), Chinese (such as Feng Shui), and Indian (such as Vastu). Each tradition varies in the way it presents the elements and their respective colours, as well as the methods they use for balancing these elements within oneself for wellness, and balancing them in one’s environment such as their workplace or home for the energy to be concordant.
I follow a particular Tibetan tradition, so the five elements and colours relevant to my artworks are: space as blue; air as green; water as white; fire as red; and earth as yellow. As I also follow Chinese Feng Shui practices, I have made some artworks that accord with that tradition: metal as silver; wood as green; water as blue; fire as red; and earth as yellow.
Inspiration
In addition to being inspired by the five elements, I find inspiration from the art materials themselves. I become fascinated with their movement and interplay, and my curiosity leads to ongoing experimentation with various combinations and I enjoy playing around with them. Let’s not forget to play.
Art Materials
I use a large variety of art materials for my mixed media artworks, however the majority of my pieces are a combination of alcohol inks, acrylic inks and acrylic paint, and mica pigment powders.
As I like to have dimension in my artwork, I use a base of various textured mediums and and molding paste to build shape and structure. All my artworks are done on either cotton or linen canvas.
Inkworks
I have created a large number of inkworks, solely using alcohol inks and isopropyl alcohol on yupo paper. I use my inkworks to design print-on-demand products, such as printed canvases and photos, phone cases, bags, journals and notebooks, bottles and mugs, and other homewares. I’ve also created Yoga Packs, each one containing items designed using the same inkwork. The products I’ve designed are all on the Inkworks page.
All print-on-demand items are printed and posted directly to you by Printful.
